It's important to maintain your wick before each burn. Before burning your candle, always trim the wick to approximately 0.5-1cm or simply break off any mushrooming that has occurred. This will help to prevent uneven or excessive burning.
Be equally careful not to trim the wick too far down, as this will negatively affect how the candle will burn and can result in a flame that is too small for the candle.
• Do not burn the candle for longer than 4 hours at a time - any longer than this can result in carbon build up. This can cause a larger flame and hotter burn.
• If a candle is smoking slightly with a large flame or flickering an exessive amount - your wick is likely too long. Extinguish the candle and trim. Wicks that are too long are unable to draw wax to the top. The wicks will start to burn which can cause large flames.
• Never leave a burning candle unattended or move a burning candle. Flames and molten wax are no joke.
• Don’t burn a candle all the way down. Stop burning a candle when there is at least 0.5-1cm of wax left in the container.
• Keep your candle away from things that can catch fire and always burn on a heat-resistant surface.
• Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.
• Keep away from air-conditioning and drafts. This will help to avoid rapid or uneven burning or sooting.
• Advertised burn times are approximate and based upon our own rigourous testing. Actual burn times can vary depending on mutiple factors including basic candle care (wick trimming etc) and ambient weather.
• Use a candle snuffer or wick dipper to extinguish your candle. Wick dippers are a good option as they prevent the smell of any smoke that plumes off the wick upon extinguishing the flame.
• Do not touch or move the candle until it has cooled completely.
After your candle has cooled, replace the lid and store the candle in a space away from direct sunlight. Candle lids help to protect the wax from collecting dust and dirt. Without a lid, the dust your candle collects is not very aesthetically pleasing, but it can affect the way it burns. The lid also helps to preserve the scent throw of the candle.
If you store all your candles in the same area, it also prevents the cold throw scents of your candles intermingling into a franken-fragrance.
BUMPY SURFACE AFTER BURNING: If your candle has a rough, bumpy top after burning, don't worry. The texture is caused when the hot melted wax cools and solidifies at an inconsistent rate. This is a feature of soy wax, and not a sign you did anything incorrectly. The candle will still burn normally.
FROSTING: Frosting is a natural effect of soy wax. It is the natural wax recrystallising and trying to return to its natural state. All soy waxes frost and is a sign that your item 100% natural soy wax without addititves. Frosting does not affect the performance of your candle or wax melt. Frosting can also can occur with age.
MUSHROOM: The "mushroom" shape sometimes seen at the end of a candle wick after burning is the result of carbon buildup. This more commonly happens with longer burn times. Remove the mushroom from the tip of the wick with wick trimmers, and your candle will burn without any issues. This is a step we suggest not skipping as it will improve the efficiency of the candle.
SWEATING: Candles may "sweat" in hotter weather or if your candle has experienced an extreme temperature change. This is completely normal and just another feature of natural soy wax. If this occurs, you can either leave your candle as is, or you can simply wipe the excess oil off with paper towels or tissue.
Here's a couple of methods you can use to remove any left over wax from your jars if you choose to repurpose your candle jar.
Option 1 - Freezer
Place the candle in the freezer for about an hour. Next, then use a spoon or similar to pop out the residual layer of wax. If it doesn't easily come out, you can try to break cracks into the wax gently and let the pieces fall out. Remove the wick by lightly tugging it with your fingers. Once everything is removed, you can use hot soapy water to remove any residue.
Option 2 - Hot Water
Next, fill the jar with hot or boiling water and leave it to sit for 10-15 minutes to soften the wax.
Once the wax is softened gently remove the residual wax - our preferred method is to use paper towels.
• Only use in tea-light warmers or electric warmers appropriate for wax melts
• Consider the size of your room in regards to the strength of your ideal scent throw. A larger room will require more wax melts for a strong scent throw.
• Do not add too many wax melts to your warmer
• Ensure the burner is placed on a level and stable service. Never leave melted wax unattended around children or pets.
• Cover wax after it is completely cooled. Covering will prevent any dust & debris from collecting on the surface.
• Store your wax melts in a cool, dry place, away from direct light
• Discontinue use when wax no longer produces a scent
• Disposing: After extinguishing the flame, the wax melts will cool and solidify. If your melt does not pop out easily you can place it in the freezer for a short time, which will shrink the wax allowing for easier release. Please be sure to properly dispose of wax. Do not pour hot wax down the drains.
